Role of coalition forces during the ISIS war in Iraq from 2014 to 2017 Abstract For decades, the world has been faced with problems associated with the prevalence of terrorist organizations around the globe. Being among the topmost affected fronts, the United States has been able to take relevant actions towards ensuring that the war against terrorism is dealt with comprehensively. Following the 2001bombings into the United States, other fronts have since emerged in support of the United States to enable it to fight the ISIS war in Iraq. As such, this study wishes to come up with an understanding of the various roles played by both the United States and coalition forces towards dealing with the war from the year 2014 to 2017. To do so, the researcher was able to critically review available literature about the study’s topic. As such, secondary sources were the primary data collection tools for the research where the researcher made use of sources such as renowned news columns such as The New York Times and the Guardian among other sources such as newspapers, published books and articles. Additionally, the dissertation also made use of questionnaires and interviews as the main primary data collection tools. Qualitative data analysis methods were then implemented in order to come up with logical conclusions for the study.
Chapter one Introduction Throughout time the rise of terrorism has seen the word experience significant implications. International terrorism may be defined as any acts that are violent and are likely to cause harm to the lives of individuals hence leading a to a violation of state and federal laws. Some of the most common characteristics of international terrorists include the coercion of people’s civilization, the use of intimidation as a possible means of influencing key government policies, impacting government activities through the use of events such as kidnapping, assassination and the destruction of government infrastructure[Mar18]. In such cases, individuals being affected by such endeavors are often advised to seek asylum in foreign countries. Despite the above definition, terrorism remains to be a term that fails to have a single meaning. Different individuals have distinct means of explaining what the concept of terrorism is all about their lives. Regardless, one thing remains to be the same; terrorism may either be local or international. Owing to the differences in people’s points of views, a segment of individuals may fail to perceive a group of terrorists as such more so if their actions are driven towards promoting the welfare of the local people at the experience of their individuals (Heginbotham, 2015). For instance, a group of individuals may view a segment of terrorists as a minor group of revolutionaries. Nevertheless, scholars have been able to raise the attention that any radical action lacks human compassion may not be regarded as a revolutionary crusade and may, therefore, be viewed as a terror threat (Gerges, 2017). As such, when a group of individuals engages in activities that end up harming individuals, then those involved may be perceived as terrorists.
