Running Ahead: Salmonella in the Caribbean 2Salmonellosis is one of the most common diseases that plagues worldwide and doubling in the United States and United Kingdom. This is known as a Zoonotic disease is in which defined as an infectious disease that can be naturally transmitted between animals and humans or anything with vertebrates. Salmonellosis is also caused by consuming food contaminated with the salmonella bacteria in which is the second leading cause of all food borne diarrheal illnesses which has many risk factors. People that are in contact with salmonella sometimes have no symptoms but others have developed diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps that start as soon as 8 to 72 hours after becoming infected with the disease. This can have life threatening complications such as dehydration which can require medical attention. Life threatening complications can develop ifthe infection spreads farther in the body and reaches your intestines.
