Executive SummaryBACKGROUND OF THE TOPICConsumers play a large role in the management of e-waste. Due to increased global interest, 90%of American consumers were concerned about the way their purchases affected the environment, and they would be willing to change their purchasing behavior in an effort to improve the environment .Consumer interest in the environment had an effect on the success of manufacturing, and manufactures that have associated themselves with environmental causes have rebounded from the recession significantly faster than traditional manufacturers who had not done so. Companies that had profited from developing and selling green and sustainable products have increased over the years .Green sustainable products met the following criteria: sustainability, cradle-to-cradle design, source reduction, innovation, and viability. Cradle-to-cradle design is a holistic economic, industrial, and social framework, which seeks to create systems that are not just efficient but essentially wastefree. For example, General Electric (GE) introduced compact fluorescent light bulbs in 2005. At first, GE captured less than 5% of the market; however, only 2 years later, corresponding to an increase in public awareness of 3 threatsto climate change, GE captured 20% of the market .
