Objectives: 1. To measure the static and kinetic frictional forces using a force sensor 2. To determine the relationship between friction force and the normal force acting on an object. 3. To measure the coefficients of static friction and kinetic friction between surfaces and to verify that these two values are independent of the normal force. 4. To analyze the forces using FBD and experimentally verify that predictions in the case of a wooden cart moving up an inclined plane that involves friction. Introduction Whenever the surface of one body slides over another, each body exerts a frictional force on the other parallel to the surfaces. The direction of friction on each body is opposite to that of its motion relative to the other. The frictional force in this case is called the static frictional force.
