Mind/Body Dualism In the Western thought there has long been a separation between the mind and the body. The mind transcends the body. Descartes, I think therefore I am. Our selves lie in our minds, not our bodies. We have bodies, but we rarely say, I am a body. Christian emphasis on suppressing the body, the temptations of “the flesh”. The body in opposition to the soul or spirit.

Mind/Body In mind/body dualism in Western thinking, woman has been associated with the body while man is linked with the mind and its pursuits. In Judeo/Christian tradition women are sources of temptation. They have been depicted as temptresses and seductresses. Dangerous but also weak. They are threats and must be controlled.
