Nature/Nurture The nature/nurture debate: is concerned with whether humans think or act in certain ways because of some inherent nature (born that way) or because of the social and physical environment in which they are reared and nurtured (made that way)

Nature/Nurture Biological determinism: the belief that human behaviours are caused by biological factors. (Biology is destiny, as is sometimes said). Biological determinism is often used to talk about gender identity and sexuality. Hormones for example are often cited as explanations for male aggression, and for female emotional instability, flightiness, lack of ability to be the President, and so on.

Anthropologists argue that humans, while animals, are distinct in terms of: Learning The use of language and symbols to convey complex meanings Ability to defy biology/instinct “between man and nature [hangs] the veil of culture … Permeating everything [is]the essence of words; the meanings and values that lay beyond the senses” (Leslie White, cited in Sahlins 1976).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
