2RESEARCH PAPER: THE AIR COMMERCE ACT OF 1926AbstractHistorically, the government’s interest in regulating various modes of transportation extended toensuring competition, while maintaining the efficiency for operators and passengers. When itcomes to the aviation industry, it was barely regulated before the Air Commerce Act was signedby President Calvin Coolidge in 1926. The first federal regulation of aviation occurred with thepassage of the Air Commerce Act of 1926, with a modest mandate from the Congress to developaviation. The act became a solid foundation for the building of national commercial aviationindustry to deal with the issues encountered with the rise of aviation. This research will be usefulfor any student pursuing a degree in aviation or an aviation professional enquiring thebackground of aviation legislation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationbetween the Air Commerce Act of 1926 and the development of aviation. The research wasperformed by using the cross-section analysis of know history facts supported by references toactual documents and comparing the data against the timeline. The study definitely answers thequestions regarding the significance of the act in the aviation legislation and also highlights theimportance of the act in the development of the aviation industry.
