ABSTRACT Student in group of 5 run a practical experiment of handling and measuring the basic measuring equipment such as Vernier caliper, micrometer, optical comparator, and height gauge in objective to achieve the required dimensions of the specimen given to them. Student decide the suitable equipment for measuring and done the measurement for each required dimension. The data were collected and put in the measurement data form. Students were instructed to analyse the data by static measure and plotting the graph of control chart referring to measurement data form taken by each student for each dimension. The result is show in instrument table and control chart graph.

1.0 INTRODUCTION Linear measurement is the measurement of length, diameters, heights and thickness. We are using measurement instrument consist of Vernier caliper, height gauge, optical comparator and micrometer and we are instructed to choose the suitable instrument for the measurement of the specimen provided to students. We also need to do a calibration of the equipment before any measurement are taken. Next, student also need to do an analyses process performance by tabulate statistics measures data and control chart using the formula given. 2.0 OBJECTIVE To perform linear measurement by using Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Optical Comparator, Height Gauge and Bevel Protractor To analyse the collection data using statistic To verify process performance using statistics measures and process control charts constructed from measurement data
3.0 SCOPE In this experiment, we are using standard Vernier caliper, height gage, micrometer (0- 25mm), optical comparator and Bevel protractor. For the sample, we are using the block in figured 3.1 Figure 3.1: Sample Dimension

4.0 EQUIPEMENT Measuring instruments 1 . Name : Vernier calipers Function : A precision instrument that measures internal dimensions, outside dimensions, and depth. It can measure to an accuracy of one thousandth of an inch and one hundredth of a millimeter. The caliper has two sets of jaws, one each on the upper and lower portions. Range : 300 mm – 1000 mm 2 . Name : Micrometer Function : To measured extremely small dimensions of sample. Range : 25 mm – 50 mm 3 . Name : Optical Comparator Function : A device that applies the principles of optics for the inspection of manufactured parts. In a comparator, the magnified silhouette of a part is projected on a screen, and the dimensions and geometry of the part are measured against the prescribed limits.
