The rubber tree, which was first found in the Amazon Rainforest, is now also grown in tropical areas in Asia and Africa. The tree is harvested for latex, a milky fluid found in vessels in the tree’s bark. These vessels are opened and the latex which runs out is collected in buckets and used to make natural rubber. There are over 1.9 million rubber trees growing in the Amazon Rainforest At heights reaching 200 feet, the big-leaf mahogany tree shoots through the top of the rainforest canopy. This majestic tree, which can live upward of 350 years, is an integral part of the rainforest ecosystem and is an important resource for local communities. Its dark brown, flaky bark has a sweet odor, and bears a gray-brown fruit and small white flowers. Its leaves can reach lengths of 20 inches. Orchids comprise one of the most abundant and varied of flowering plant families. There are over 20,000 known species and orchids are especially common in moist tropical regions. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
