Gabrielle Juniel January 23, 2019 Professor Dragomir Speech 1318 Improving My Self Image Direct definition is communication that explicitly tells us who we are by reacting to our behaviors and labeling us based off what we do. A great example of direct definition is my parents describe me as smart, excelling, and a kingdom builder. I have heard that I am good with people and that I have a good heart for people. I have also heard my parents say that I am an inspiration for them and many others. I have also received direct definitions that show constructive criticism, such as “you are not being responsible”. With the constructive criticism, I do not let it get me down, but I look at it as a guide to help me change my behavior to become a better and wiser me. I have also seen direct definition in a negative way in school. It was inferred by a teacher that I was not smart because I asked a question that was previously explained because I did not understand what was explained. The teacher responded (with a rude and aggravated tone) “I just explained this to you, you need to pay attention and listen this time when I explain the information.” This comment by the teacher made me feel like I was stupid, and it has made me think that I am stupid when I ask questions that have already been explained. In that class, I felt like if I did not understand the material the first time. Then, I had to figure it out on my own the
