CSIA 350 CYBERSECURITY IN BUSINESS & INDUSTRY2Executive SummaryAmazon is the largest e-commerce marketplace and cloud computing platform in the country.Amazon was launched in July 1995 initially as an online website that sold books.Within thefirst month of their launch they sold book’s in all 50 states and a total of 45 different countries.In the early years Amazon suffered several growing pains in the early 90’s and 2000’s.They hadseveral system outages, and products not getting shipped.Amazon is rapidly evolving andcompetitive including e-commerce services, digital content, and electronic devices, and web andinfrastructure computing services.Now Amazon is worth 268 billion and not only are they anonline retailer Amazon allows individuals and businesses to sell and display products for saleonline.Amazon has now expanded to offering streaming video services, cloud computing, andrecently banking.Amazon offers called AWS Amazon Web Services which offers a broad set ofglobal compute, storage, database, analytics, applications, and deployment services that will helpan organization move faster and the lower IT cost.Amazon founder Jeffrey P. Bezos startedlaunched Amazon back in 1995.As of January 31, 2019 Amazon, announced that their fourthquarter sales were up by 20% to 72.4 billion. Their operating cash flow has increased by 67% to30.7 billion for the trailing twelve months.Amazon’s free cash flow increased to 19.4 billion forthe trailing twelve months.Even with Amazon bringing in billions from the previous year it hascompetitors like Walmart, Alibaba, eBay, Priceline, Costco, Walgreens, and Target.Amazon hasover 100 million prime users, 9.7 billion in subscription revenue, more that 5 million itemsshipped worldwide with just amazon prime, and now has an estimated 560,000 employees.
