Running Head: SEXUALITY 2 The sexual response cycle denotes the order of and emotional and physical changes that occur as a person becomes sexually aroused while participating n sexually stimulating activities, from masturbation to the intercourse itself. The climax is usually orgasms and it takes place at different times in the partners. The cycle consists of four steps namely: excitement, plateau. Orgasms and resolution. In each phase, certain characteristics are common to both male and female and some of the changes taking place are distinct. PHASE ONE: EXCITEMENT PHASE Similarities- The tension of the muscles increases. The heart rate and breathing is hastened. The skin may sometimes become flushed. Differences In women , the virginal lubrication begins, the breasts become fuller and the virginal walls begin to swell. Also, the nipples become hard and erect. Blood tends to flow to the genital areas leading to the swelling of labia minora and the clitoris.
