BIOPSYCHOLOGY 2 Question One Schizophrenia is a chronic and serious psychological illness that affect how people thinks, behaves and feels. It normally makes the affected people lose touch with the reality. The disease is normally controlled with the help of the anti-schizophrenia drugs which include but not limited to Olanzapine, asenapine, aripiprazole and Clozapine. These anti-schizophrenia medications developed mainly because of the advance in the pharmacotherapeutics in 1952 which significantly led to the antipsychotic medication to treat the disease (Muscatello et., 2014) . The pharmacotherapy is usually considered to be essential elements in lowering the psychotic symptoms along with the relapse rate. The initial pharmacological agent used to treat the condition was antihypertensive agent known as reserpine (Muscatello et., 2014) . After the discovery of the drug in 1952, additional antipsychotic medications have been developed to treat the disease, and this has significantly led to the manufacturing of the present-day anti- schizophrenia drugs used to treat the disease. Dopamine, on the other hand, is the inhibitory transmitter that is involved in the pathology of schizophrenia. The dopamine abnormalities habitually found in the mesolimbic together with the prefrontal brain areas exist in the schizophrenia. Nevertheless, the current anti-
