Unformatted text preview: Review for Third Article January 22nd, 2008 Criminal Justice Florida Fugitive Apprehended in Mississippi On January 9th, 2008, Lucy Mae Thomas was arrested in Tunica, Mississippi. The 41-year-old mother of seven children whose short-lived double life consisted of being a check counterfeiter was finally booked into the Tunica County Sheriff's Office. Her charges consist of racketeering meaning engaging in dishonest and fraudulent business dealings, grand theft, and uttering a forged instrument. Thomas' criminal career began in 2005 in the Southeast. Her fraud consisted of an average of $8,000. This is not her first time in conflict with the law. She was initially arrested in November 2006 but was placed on home confinement since she was pregnant. Once "liberated," Thomas absconded and fled with her seven children. Instead of keeping it safe and being on the "down-low," Thomas continued her devious ways and compiled more than $100,000. Most of her criminal acts were in Florida and North Carolina. Lucy Mae Thomas faces twenty years in prison. Site: http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/press_releases/20080111_Fugitive_Apprehended.html ...
