Hortez Andy Hortez Nun’s Priest Tale 1. Pertelote was one of the hens who lived with Chanticleer. 2. She was his favorite wife. “She had taken the heart to hold of Chanticleer … He loved her” (70). 3. Chanticleer's issue was that he was experiencing a nightmare in which he was being killed by a fox. “I dreamed … within our yard, I saw there a strange beast … like a dog, and he’d have made a feast upon my body, and have had me dead” (70). 4. In reaction to Chanticleers nightmare, Pertelote said that he is suppose to be brave and that hes just having gas and needed a laxative. She says, “to have a husband hardy, wise, and free, and trustworthy, no niggard, and no fool, nor one that is afraid … for God’s love go and take some laxative” (71). 5. Pertelote does not believe his nightmare, she just thinks it has to do with the meal the he consumed earlier. This make her question his legitimacy. 6. She thinks that his nightmares are being caused by his stomach. So she tells he to take laxatives. 7. To remedy the problem, she tells him to take a variety of laxatives. “You take your laxatives of laurel, centuary, and fumitory, or … hellbore purificatory, or caper spurge or dogwood berry” (71). 8. Chanticleer uses an example for his counterargument. This example was about a man who had a nightmare about his friend being murdered and places in a wagon. This man later woke up and realized that the nightmare was true.
