The most significant theme of this short story is the suppression of women. In the passage, there were two incidence in which Minnie Wright felt suppressed and felt powerless by her husband’s decisions. In the first incident, Mr. Wright’s decision of not installing a telephone made Minnie feel suppressed and isolated.
