Urinalysis Lab Urinalysis is the analysis of urine by physical, chemical and microscopical means to test for the presence of diseases, drugs, etc. It involves checking the appearance, concentration and contents of the urine. A urinalysis is done for several reasons such as to check your overall health, to diagnose a medical condition or to monitor a medical condition. There are three methods that are used by doctors to examine the urine: Microscopic exam, Dipstick exam and visual exam. In the microscopic exam, doctors look at the urine under a microscope and looks for: abnormalities in red or white blood cell which can be signs of kidney disease or bladder disease, crystals that may indicate kidney stones, infectious bacteria or yeast, or epithelial cells which may indicate a tumor. In the dipstick exam, the doctor inserts a chemically treated stick into the urine which changes colours based on the presence of a
