PHYS 231 Exp 8 Lab Report - Analysis Questions 1 Why does...

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

Analysis Questions 1. Why does the total momentum before the collision include only the momentum of the ball? Why isn’t the momentum of the pendulum included? The pendulum was at rest initially, so its initial velocity is 0 m/s, and because p = mv , its resulting initial momentum is 0 J. 2. Does your analysis support the Law of Conservation of Momentum? Explain. Yes, the Law of Conservation of Momentum is supported because the calculated initial and final momentum equal to each other (refer to Part A of Data and Analysis section). In other words, there was no change in the total momentum of the system before and after the collision. 3. Compare the kinetic energy just before the collision and just after the collision. What was the KE before? What was the KE after? Is it experimentally significant? Calculate the % difference. Show your work. Yes, the values are experimentally significant. As shown on Data Table 1 on Part A of Data and Analysis , the KE before collision was 1.65 J, and the KE after collision was 0.348 J. By calculating the percent difference, it shows that the kinetic energy decreased

"Before using Course Hero my grade was at 78%. By the end of the semester my grade was at 90%. I could not have done it without all the class material I found."

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
