7.2 Differentiate among various forms of comedy, including satire, the comedy of character, farce, and parody. Comedy was first recorded in history over 400 years ago during the 4thcentury inAncient Greece ( Betts 2018). What would life be like without humor? It is a vital part of our existence, and that is why it always has and always will be apart of humanities. Comedy goes so much deeper than just the word comedy; there are so many different variations of comedy. The purpose of which is to amuse the audience, but the sub-genres determines how it is delivered and in what way. Satire is used in a smart, witty, and sarcastic approach to criticize or demean, in a comical way, something the comedian doesn't like when it comes to politics, society, religion, or the government. From the Humanities textbook readings, it reads, “the satire genre of comedy that ridicules such things as war, political corruption, and religious hypocrisy. Tends to be less wildly exaggerated than parody” ( Janaro & Altshuler, 2017). A great example of this kind of satire comedy would be “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart.
