Surname 1 Students Name Professor’s Name Course Date Technology and Education Introduction Over time, technology has widely been embraced in all aspects of life i.e. from people buying current high definition television sets and laptops with heightened capabilities which are all technologically driven equipment (Nickerson, Raymond and Philip). Schools have also adopted the norm in the quest for implementing technology. Every country is integrating technology into their learning institutions for advantages that are going to be discussed in this research paper. Shortcomings of the subject and recommendations to reduce the adverse effects caused by technology integration in the education sector will be highlighted. Historical Aspects of Technology in Schools Technology embracement has revolutionized in schools from the days where learning institutions had one computer for use in the school, typewriters were being used in typing, and notes were also scribbled down in class to date where almost every class has a modern printer; teachers come to class to explain concepts and hand over soft copy notes to students. Computers used currently are also high-speed and can be integrated with educational software’s to aid learning. Computers of the past which did not have such capabilities (Nickerson, Raymond and Philip). However, general effects brought about by technological implementation in education are as discussed below. Technology as a Tutor For technology to function as a tutor, educating programs have to be developed and installed on computers the run during tutor hours to teach. The technological gadget, i.e. computer will give students questions during class periods then process answers received from individual learners through evaluation programs embedded in it to give a detailed feedback on whether an answer is right or wrong. Technology acts as a tutor especially for students who have different abilities. Students who have difficulty in pronunciation can play audio’s from whichever technological gadgets and practice on their pronunciations. Students with hearing impairments have also benefited from the advancements brought by technology which enables them to overcome challenges that they had experienced earlier (Greeves and Mathew, 195-211). Computer as a Teaching Tool The computer as a technological tool in schools involves a teacher using it to make teaching more efficient. A teacher will need to install relevant programs to a computer, i.e. programs to run complex calculations so that time that have been otherwise been used to do board calculations is saved, a tutor will only feed in the input numbers to process output within a few seconds (Greeves and Mathew, 195-211).
