Visual Analysis of The Investiture of Saint Ildefonsus In the painting, The Investiture of Saint Ildefonsus, Juan de Borgoña depicts a scene of a woman on a throne placing a cloak on a kneeling man. The importance of the scene can be described by features of viewpoint, geometry, color, and size. Borgoña intends to capture the viewer’s attention by using rich, bright colors and the viewer’s relation to the scene to make the audience feel as though they could be a part of the crowd of people. The painting also serves to highlight the center of the scene, the enthroned woman placing a cloak on a kneeling man, by using symmetry and lines. The size and proportions of the painting play a large part in the relation to the viewer. The painting is very large surrounded by a decorative frame. Because the painting is so large, the figures in the painting seem almost life-size so that the viewer could imagine himself or herself standing among the crowd.
