Known as expressionism. • Was put in a hospital to show people how Christ suffered • Sickly color, hands are in an awkward position, etc. • Used oil to make the colors brighter • When open, it was very bright and happy. Shows Madonna and Child and Christ’s resurrection Albrecht Durer Self Portrait • Had an international reputation • Was the first major protestant artist • Looks kind of like Christ. Tries to show he’s divinely inspired and can paint too. • Shows himself with fur. He’s only a tradesman. He could not afford a fur! Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Albrecht Durer) • Engraving made from wood • Apparently did not make it himself • Drawing of the revelation from the bible. End of human kind....
