Genre Comparison2Elements of Quality LiteratureReading for children can be both fun and rewarding. Students can be exposed to different experiences and circumstances while having little guidance on it. When it comes to children’s literature there is a variety of book with different genres that can be used as tools to help with situations, challenges students may face. Some books teach children how to be respectful of other opinions, and differences. Some teach self-awareness and to be open minded of other views. Books may also cover broad issues. Children’s books are classified by different genres such as picture books, traditional literature and fantasy. There are many more genres, we will justfocus on these three. Each type of book has a specific purpose and has unique characteristics to them. The all can work hand in hand and can be used in different combinations in the classroom. Literature has no limit. A picture book provides an illusion where pictures are portrayed through pictures throughout the text. It is a dialog between two worlds, the world of images and the world of words. (Travers 2008) Some form of these types of books are Toy books, Pop-up books, Interactive books, Wordless books, Alphabet/counting books, and Picture story books.
