DeLeon J. Hudson Dr. Elizabeth Bir English 110-01 February 27, 2008 Black Manhood Black men have two different views on what it takes to become a man. A young black male that has my point of view on what it takes to become a man would say it starts with education. A young black male that opposes my point of view would say that living a gangster lifestyle is the only way to become a man in the selection, “The Talented Tenth”, W.E.B. DuBois talks about what he thinks young black males should do to become men. Black manhood should be pushed by family, friends, and even teachers because if not we as young black males will always have the wrong and uncut view on what it takes to become a man. Manhood to me is not something that you grow in to. It is something that we as young black males have to strive and work for. The first step to becoming a man to me starts with getting a good education. Now days for a black male to have an education is rare. I say it is rare because so many young black males drop out of high school at an early age. For those who make it through high school that is a job well done, but we need to take it one extra step further and go to college and get a degree. Even with a high school diploma it is hard to get a basic job because people still look at as us as low educated people. So I believe that if we strive for the best education out in society, then we will be able to start our process of becoming a man. The next major thing we need is to start taking
