LCBO CONSULTING SELF-ASSESSMENT 2 LCBO Consulting Self-Assessment The purpose of this paper is assessing myself about consulting skills and comparing my skills before and after taking the course of BUSI 640 Consulting Practices with Doctor Vincenti. The self-assessment will be based upon my experience with the LCBO case study to analyze my strength and weaknesses in consulting field, how my point of view has change about consulting, and how I can improve my consulting skills. Summary of the LCBO Case Study My first experience was for LCBO management team in Ontario, Canada. They were looking for a way to transform their organization from a retailor to a wholesaler and distributer of beverage alcohol as the provincial government of Ontario asked them to do. Because of the changes in customer expectations and generally in today’s world trade, they faced some challenges to continue their business. The first challenge was how to be a wholesaler when there is no experience before, then how to keep customer retention in the upcoming competition environment. In general, customer services in both retailing and wholesaling was their main challenge. However, they have some competitive advantages such as online selling and some regulations, which limit other competitors in the market. Also, they benefit from experts in their stores to provide a unique experience for the customers. Therefore, a comprehensive road map to change the firm was all they needed. To implement the new policy, they required a consultant, who can help them in different area of their business and give them solutions. I gave them a consultancy in some areas by diagnosing their current situation, assessing the internal and external factors, and finally evaluating their options. The first suggested point
LCBO CONSULTING SELF-ASSESSMENT 3 was to leverage technology to reach out to customers, increase their market share, and make the customer royal. The idea was an integrated online software, which provides all customers with convenient shopping process, personalized suggestions, and saving money and time. The second recommendation was about reorganizing their human resource to maximize their productivity not only in retailing but also in wholesaling and online selling. They had many experts in retailing sector, while, they needed representatives in the new marketing system. Therefore, I suggested some in-house training courses for the current staff and then change their job description to use them in other sectors, instead of firing the existent human resources and hire another group of people.
