COMMUNICATING EVALUATION RESULTS2Communicating Evaluation ResultsIntroductionThere are numerous ways in which program evaluators can share or communicate theirevaluation findings to different audiences be it counselors or stakeholders. The evaluationfindings can be disseminated through traditional methods such as report writing or otherinnovative methods such as briefings and conferences among others (Myers & Barnes, 2004).The most important thing is the quality and influence of the findings that should bemethodologically appropriate, robust and evidence based. Good and credible communication ofthe findings should be persuasive enough to the audience to acknowledge the conclusions andrecommendations of the findings as evidence based. This paper will evaluate ways the results ofthe clinical mental health counselling program will be communicated to the counsellors andstakeholders, ethical considerations during communication, how the results can be used toimprove the program and advance the counselling field (Myers & Barnes, 2004).Communicating Results to Counselors and ColleaguesIt is important to note that each group of stakeholders may not need the same type ofinformation nor do they need the findings communicated in the same way. For this reason, therefore, the program evaluators must make certain that the message for each stakeholder groupis designed with regards to the informational needs of each group. This will to a large extentmight mean that the evaluators will be obliged to gather different types of evidence for differenttypes of stakeholder groups or use the same evidence for the groups and presenting it in differentways. For instance, for counsellors to deliver an intervention in administering their services, they use processes on their clients that deliver identifiable outcomes at each stage. In most
COMMUNICATING EVALUATION RESULTS3instances, the processes used by the counsellors on their clients are determined by the outcomesattempted since they tend to be dynamically and mutually associated. As a result, the counsellorsmay need detailed information, evidences and testimonials from the program findingscommunicated by the evaluator (Elkins, 2006).Therefore, organizing conferences with the counsellors would be most appropriatemethod to communicate the finding or results of the program evaluation. During the conferencesessions, the evaluator will have enough time to disseminate the program evaluation results indetail and accuracy so that the counsellors, who are the most active stakeholders (due to theirdirect indulgence with the clients/patients) can use the evaluation results to gauge theirperformance, identify the loop holes, strengths, question and criticize the result if need be.
