Kaci Chandra 07/16/2007 Section 11 Valerie Goodman Dying to answer the phone Specific Purpose:  To persuade my audience to vote on the bill to ban cell phone use while driving in March  of 2008 Central Idea: Banning the use of a handheld cellular device while operating a motor vehicle will  dramatically reduce the rate of teenage accidents occurring that are not alcohol related. Also, by  banning the use of cell phones while operating a motor vehicle will help teenagers pay more  attention to the road and therefore reduce the risk to other motorists on the road. You can help  decide whether to ban the use of cell phones on the road or not by voting in May of 2008. Pattern of Organization: Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Introduction/Attention: I. Attention and Relate to the audience:  Relate to the audience through imagining a  scenario where they are talking on their cell phone and all of a sudden someone cuts  them off and they lose control of their car; or someone talking on their cell phone is  driving beside you and they swerve into your lane causing a crash. II. Reveal Topic:  I am talking about the importance of the ban on cell phones law that  needs to be passed in March of 2008 to help young teenagers on the road III. Credibility and Significance:  My research has shown that car crashes are a leading  cause of death among teenagers, killing more teens than the next three leading  causes   of   death   combined.   According   to   National   Highway   Traffic   Safety  Association’s website, in 2003, 7,884 people age 15 to 20 died in motor vehicle  crashes with a whopping 35% being tied back to cell phone use while operating the  car for people of all ages, and 14% people teenagers age 15-20.  Cell phones in the
