Unique BenoitPersonal Goal Statement1As long as I could remember, I was always a thinker. Even as a little girl growing up I thoughtrather than spoke. Yes, you read that right I did not speak only thought. From the tender age offive until my early pre- teen years communicating with others was a really difficult task for me. Idid not speak to anybody other than my immediate family members. I could not understand why,I just could not get the words out. If someone questioned me, I thought the answer but couldnever speak those words. My miscommunication hindered me I was held back a grade and it alsopromoted bullying. As I got older, I wanted to understand why I could not communicate properlywith other people. After doing some research I discovered that this childhood anxiety disorderwas called selective mutism. It was that very moment that encouraged me to become a futurepsychologist. I wanted to know why people did what they did and their thought process. Themind is a beautiful and complex thing and my goal is to understand it thoroughly.
