He has three children, one teenager and two young adults, with his ex-wife who he is attempting to send to college. He is experiencing chronic pain, has difficulty sleeping, has been having a few beers each evening, and has been taking sleep and anti-anxiety medicine to minimize his feeling of stress. David’s specific characteristics, life experiences, and stressors willbe analyzed in regard to lifespan developmental theories, cultural and individual contexts, and research-based interventions. Erickson’s identity development and the generativity vs. stagnationand integrity vs. despair stages will be discussed in regard to David’s family centered outlook and past regrets which can affect his current outlook on life. Technology training and family counseling is suggested for David, so he can reduce stress and time at work and increase communication with his wife and family. David’s individual and cultural beliefs may stress the importance of father figures providing for their family which he feels like he is failing at. Presenting ProblemDavid, a 52-year-old white male, works in the billing department of a rural hospital and his position is considered mid-level administration. David has a master’s degree and has been employed in health care and supervisor positions for 24 years. David’s responsibilities at work are growing and the increased usage of complex technology has required him to put in longer days and extra weekend hours. The longer hours have caused marital strife with his current wife. David wishes to pay for college for his three children from his first wife but is financially unable to. One of his children has been skipping school and receiving bad grades and his ex-wife is pushing for more of his support. His current wife has two twin boys, one that has learning difficulties and requires extra support, which requires that his wife only works part-time. David
