2PERSONAL REFLECTION PAPERPersonal Reflection PaperGroup therapy is beneficial in many ways. It is economical, convenient, and provides individuals with a safe and respectful environment for healing. This paper will discuss the most significant essentials that this writer has learned throughout this course, specifically, the most significant fundamentals learned about herself as a budding group counseling professional. This paper will, similarly, discuss the specific experiences and skills that this writer will need to develop to be more knowledgeable and efficient group counselor, as well as her greatest confidence and areas of opportunity when leading a group session. Additionally, this paper will detail and discuss the modality and group type that she may decide to lead, in the future, as a group counselor. Significant Subject LearnedThis entire course was dedicated to explaining the dynamics of group and the characteristics of an effective group leader. Out of the course material learned, I found that the most significant subject was the importance of the role the group leader plays in the counseling session. The role of the group leader does not stop with just making connections with group members, leading, and/or keeping ease during sessions. The group leader must keep the discussions going during the sessions, help members with solutions to their issues, provide support, and encourage continual engagement within the group. As the leader of the groups, the facilitator offers suggestions for coping mechanisms that will assist the participants with life stressors. These suggestions, also, provide guidance and inspires participants to be tenacious withactions that are consistent with accomplishing their goals. This writer has, also, learned that there are many types of groups that are available to facilitate. Prior to taking this course, this writer believed that utilizing the psychoeducational

The course text, and other literature offered throughout the course, discussed a myriad of group counseling techniques, different types of psychotherapy models, and task facilitation groups. It is very important to appreciate diversity when working with individuals within a multicultural group. It is, also, vital to respect group participants, be flexible, and allow for growth of all members to include the facilitator. This will make for a very successful group process.
