Laboratory 2 : Introduction to Computer Networks and Data
Communications
Submission Due : Before the end of the lab session
Total Marks = 10 marks for 10 weeks (BNet and BEng)
Marks will be given only to students who attend and participate during
the 2 hours’ laboratory class. Submission on Moodle is mandatory as an
evidence of participation.
Lab objectives:
- Understand the basic network terminologies
- Understand the layers of the network model
- Associate devices and protocols to the layers of the network model
- Learn how to capture data packets using WireShark
Exercises:
Exercise 1: Researching the association between network layers
and devices/protocols
 In this exercise, you are going to do some research on devices and
protocols that are associated with the OSI reference model.
 From the Table 1 below, identify which protocols and devices belong
to which layer. Write your answer by completing the table below;
