ESSENTIALS OF ADVANCED NURSING PRACTICE 2 Advanced Nursing Practice Field Experience A1. Purpose and Overview: The primary purpose of the consultation was two-fold. Firstly, to acquire a better understanding of the role a nurse educator plays in the organization, and secondly to discuss weaknesses within the organization’s process with opportunities to improve those weaknesses. The consultation began on time and as scheduled with Sandi, the Nurse Educator/Leader, of an acute care facility, where the two of us interacted with several questions that assisted in data gathering. Sandi and I discussed her role in the organization, the goals that she supports, and the key stakeholders that she interacts with daily. The organization’s mission statement was revealed as well as specific information on how that mission statement carries out. The end of the interview consisted of information on maintaining evidence-based quality initiatives and patient safety goals that the organization implements. Sandi and I discussed that patient safety is the number one priority of the organization and all quality initiatives are centered on the safe, efficient, evidence-based care of the patient. A2.
