APPLICATION OF STATISTICS IN HEALTHCARE Statistical Application in Healthcare Statistics is applied in healthcare in many ways. Statistics is a form of mathematics that analyzes data that has been around for hundreds of years. Statistics can be used to help health care professionals see trends using data analysis to improve patient outcomes and quality of care using evidence-based practice (Ambrose, 2018). There has been an increase push in practicing by evidence or evidence-based practice (EBP), understanding and using statistics is vital in enabling healthcare workers to provide the data to back this up and track the progress. Hospitals and other service organizations implement data-driven programs to improve quality of care and maximize efficiency. Statistics is also used by leaders to monitor performance and measure outcomes. Application of Statistics “More than a decade ago, the WHO Health Promoting Hospitals (HPH) project was initiated in order to support hospitals towards placing greater emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention, rather than on diagnostic and curative services alone” (Groene, Garcia, 2005). To do this data must be obtained and studied to develop evidence-based practice and have the data to support it. Core measures were developed in 1999, and are a set of standards that is driven by evidence-based data analysis to improve outcomes and treatment processes for common conditions. “Well-known examples include inpatient pneumococcal vaccination, venous
