Music 143 Study Sheet and Lyrics for Listening Quiz 2 Instructions: You will be played excerpts from five songs drawn from the syllabus. Each excerpt will be played twice. For each song, identify the performer, title, and date. Also, identify the characteristics of the excerpt that correspond with the list at the bottom of the page. There will be three categories: 1) influenced by/elements of 2) musical elements 3) lyrics. See below for a partial list of those characteristics. For example, if the excerpt has been influenced by Elvis, has strings and alternating rappers, and is about food, answer the question as below. Only identify characteristics that you hear in the excerpt. For example, only note that a song has strings if you hear the strings in the excerpt. Do not identify any more or fewer characteristics for each song than there are blanks provided. If you believe there are more characteristics than there are blanks, pick the characteristics that come out most clearly in the excerpt. Characteristics may appear in multiple songs. 1.
