Lesson 1 – Evolution of Populations An allele is a form of a gene. For example, there are two alleles that play a role in eye color. One form produces a protein, which results in dark eyes, and the other allele does not produce a protein and results in light eyes. The gene pool is all the ___loci_______ carried by all of the individuals in the population. Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium – describes when a population has no changes in the gene pool from generation to generation. This is not common. A population is either in Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium or Microevolution is occurring. Microevolution means that there is a change in the alleles or gene pool of a population from one generation to the next. In our eye color example, if the number of dark eyes alleles and light eyed alleles stay the same, then the population is in equilibrium. But, if there is a shift and there are more dark eyed alleles, then microevolution has occurred.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
