Surname 1 Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date Effect of Abolitionist Movement in Civil War The U.S Civil War of 1861 can be said to be caused by a series of several issues in American society and cannot be tied down to one cause. It was caused by a various sentiments that were and still are still affecting America to date (Kazin 2012), but we cannot deny that it was largely fuelled by the Abolition Movement. This was a social and political push for the immediate release of slaves and bring an end to ethnic discrimination and segregation lead by figures such as William Garrison. The movement continued to gain strength and was more formally organized years before the Civil War. This stirred opposition in both the North and South (Ortiz 2014). .The abolitionists sparked emotion and called to action to end slavery. There was different kinds of reaction during the decade leading up to the start of the Civil War. American society could no longer deal with the “slave power,” which was the dominant political theme in the economy (Ortiz 2014).Radical attacks on bondage were called for by Abolitionists and they began forming political parties that would reduce slavery. Response from the slave-owners and those from the North was cold. A gag rule was passed in December 1839 that preventing any discussion of abolition petitions (Ortiz 2014). During
