ENG-105 03/18/2019 Virgil Mathes The Rise in ADHD Diagnosis The rise in diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in the US has people wandering what the cause is. “Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a brain disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development” (2016). ADHD diagnosis has been steadily rising in the US. The diagnosis of ADHD in children has been on the rise in the past twenty years. Rachel Bluth from the Washington Post, states that the diagnosis in children has went up 10 percent, which is a significant increase in the last twenty years (Bluth, 2018). This trend of an increasing diagnosis of ADHD in America has given professionals a reason to try to find out why this is happening. It takes a team of people to diagnose ADHD including parents, teachers and medical professionals. This disorder is normally diagnosed in children and can carry on to adulthood. The rise in ADHD diagnosis affects school aged children, their parents and their teachers. Children affected by ADHD normally show signs and symptoms at home and at school. It is important for them to get treatment, so they can learn to function at school and be successful in their academics.
