APPLICATION OF STATISTICS IN HEALTH CARE Application of Statistics in Health Care Research, analysis and statistics is used in everyday situations including in a health care setting. As healthcare providers we can predict an outcome in comparison to a patient’s signs and symptoms. The use of statistics provides aid to evidence based practices for optimal patient outcomes. The application of statistics applies a significance to quality, safety, health promotion, and leadership in health care. Any organization, with no exception to hospitals or community health centers applies the knowledge of statistics on a day-to-day operation and to provide insight decision making. “Statistics looks for correlations between entities” (Ambrose, 2018). This concept has been used for many years to compare and contrast ending results on a given situation. For example, the pioneer of nursing Florence Nightingale analyzed the rate of infection in comparison to unsanitary conditions which included hospitals, ventilation, expired foods, and environment cleanliness (Ambrose, 2018). During Nightingales career the use of statistics methods, provided death rates due to preventable diseases, wounds, and other causes. Though statistics was around for many years prior to Nightingales analysis, this research provided a stepping stone to statistics in health care.
