Description of Organization
History of Apple Products
Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne in April 1976 to
develop and sell personal computers. It was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc. in January
1977, and was renamed as Apple Inc. in January 2007 to reflect its shifted focus toward
consumer electronics. In 1975, the 20-year-old Jobs and Wozniak set up shop in Jobs' parents'
garage, dubbed the venture Apple, and began working on the prototype of the Apple I. To
generate the $1,350 in capital they used to start Apple, Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen microbus,
and Steve Wozniak sold his Hewlett-Packard calculator. In the just-published Steve Jobs
biography, Jobs told Walter Isaacson he was “on one of my fruitarian diets” and had just come
back from an apple farm, and thought the name sounded “fun, spirited and not intimidating” and
that is where Apple got its name.
Mission Statement
Apple's current mission statement as of 2017 is "Apple designs Macs, the best personal
computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads
the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the
mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App store, and is defining the future of mobile
media and computing devices with iPad."
It is different from Steve Jobs' original ideals, which
are encapsulated in his mission statement: "To contribute to the world by making tools for the
mind that advance humankind." [Wha17].
Apple Products
Apple has had many products in the short time that it has been operating.
One of the first
products I could find was the Macintosh 128K, it was launched in1984 and sold 100,000 units in

the first 70 days.
The 128K was introduced to the world during the 1984 Super Bowl.
Mac II
came a few years later in 1987, and cost $5,500.
The Macintosh II was the first Mac to have the
'Chimes of Death' accompany the Sad Mac logo whenever a serious hardware error occurred.
(Remember that?)
The next Apple product was introduced in 1989 and cost $6,500 and was
what we consider a laptop these days.
In 2006, it was rated one of the worst tech products of all
time, it was called the Mac Portable.
The next product launched in 1990 and was the Mac LC, it
was the first color-capable Mac.
