05.05 ANALYZING 20TH CENTURY POETRY - "THE RED WHEELBARROW" BY WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS “so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens.” In the Red Wheelbarrow, William Carlos Williams takes important topics like discrimination and segregation against people of color in the work force during the 20 th century. He depicts this as the wheelbarrow represents colored people, and as they may not be used as frequently as the chickens or water, they are essential. Many people higher up on the working ladder, don’t realize how important colored people are in the work force.
