Perceiving Hispanic culture
Trying to identify what the Hispanic culture looks like and what their customs are is
something that is simple to show. The Hispanic culture has very unique values, behaviors, and
arts. Understanding each one of these subjects is important because it gives the opportunity to
see the beauty behind the Hispanic culture. We see how respect and religious beliefs play a huge
factor in a Hispanic family’s lives. There are also other aspects of Hispanic culture that are
brought forth through the media. Media brings forward the stereotypes that people create of this
culture as well. Mass media has many different options or endings to it. Some types of media can
be very good for cultures, but at times it can also not be beneficial. Mass media sets the stage as
a larger outlet to get the big situations across while social media gives individuals the
opportunity to be transparent. Social media allows viewers and creators to elaborate on their path
to success.
We begin by digging into the values behind a Hispanic family. Respect is something that
is taught from the beginning of a child’s life. They are taught that there are different levels of
respect that vary with each situation. “Respect indicates a certain level of courtesy towards
others varying on the individual’s age and situation” (Gonzalez & Mendez-Pounds, 2017). They
teach that every situation is different and requires a different level of respect. For example, you
would not show your boss and your parents the same respect. Not saying that you will respect
