Existential Psychology Geological time The dinosaurs-one hundred and thirty million years Human time- two hundred thousand years Evolution of the brain Consciousness-ability to self reflect and know that you exist Self-reflection The creation of the notion of God- created because of human conscious because they could not Acknowledge or tolerate the finiteness of their soul and their life. Ontology: what are…dimensions of being Bloated ontology-a person who believes in everything. Gem therapy to reincarnation Beliefs used to assuage the anxiety Austere ontology- don’t believe in anything, Use reason and what you see and experience Existential Angst Isolation-torment, constant aloneness Morality- the dread of eternal non-being, anticipation of death, infinity is not yours Death Anxiety- Ernest Becker- people created religion in order to ally their fears of death Plato- A seeker of truth is a student of death Meaninglessness and Purpose No god then no meaning in life. Create meaning or experience ennui (boredom, depression)
