Chapter 4 Review Question 1) Black men fought on different sides of the Revolutionary War largely depending upon the region where they lived. How did their regional location affect African Americans’ choice of which side to support? Answer) The captivity and enslavement of black people inspired them to apply the rhetoric in general rights for everybody. Thus concluding their support from the sides they participated in, in the Revolutionary War. During the war the British offered black men freedom in exchange for enlistment, drawing numerous black recruits from Maryland, North & South Carolina, and Georgia. In New England African Americans were more likely to fight for American Independence. Twenty thousand served with the British. I didn’t know African Americans were promised freedom from enslavement by the British. Question 2) Did the proportion of black Americans who were free continue to increase steadily from 1790 to 1860?
