WILSON’S DISEASE OVERVIEW Wilson’s disease is due to the builds up of copper in your body (liver, brain, kidney) Very rare, only 1 in every 30000 people affected worldwide. Copper is essential for the development of bones, nerves and immune system but excessive copper can be lethal. Normally, excess copper will be eliminated through bile. But, people with Wilson’s disease cannot remove the extra copper properly which results in copper accumulation. It is curable when diagnosed early. CAUSES Caused by mutation in the ATP7B gene on chromosome 13 Inherit mutated gene from both parent The affected child will have problems to remove excess copper from their body. As a
