After serving in the military Sam he did not get hurt physically but still suffers from depression and PTSD. He did not drink much before but to unwind he started to have one or two a couple of times a week. Since coming home, he has noticed he is drinking more. He is in counseling because his job says he needs help. He has been late to work, and his boss pulled him aside because a co-worker said he smelled like beer on the job. The intake interview and first session has already been completed. Counselor: So, Sam at our last meeting you were telling me a little about what brings you in. How has this last week been? Sam: It’s been ok I guess…. My family is worried now because I am having to come to counseling. They think I am an alcoholic or something. I don’t drink that much. It’s just to help me unwind. I mean maybe the other night I had to many. That’s when my co-worker turned me in. He said I was drinking at work. I have never gone to counseling. I don’t understand why they thought this would be a good idea or help anything I’m fine.
