2 Dispositional, Biological and Evolutionary Theory Psychology is known as the study of human behavior and there is no doubt that psychology has existed from the very beginning of human existence. However, psychology did not become a science until 1879, when Wilhelm Wundt founded the first laboratory dedicated exclusively to psychological research in Leipzig, Germany. According to Benjamin Jr. (2014), “The new psychological laboratories began their appearance in North America in the last two decades of the nineteenth century, first at Johns Hopkins University in 1883, then at Indiana University in 1887, at the University of Wisconsin in 1888, and at Clark University and the universities of Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Nebraska in 1889. The first of the new laboratories in Canada was established at the University of Toronto in 1891 (Baldwin, 1892). By 1900 there were more than 40 such laboratories in North America (Benjamin, 2000), all seeking to apply the new scientific methods, borrowed largely from physiology and psychophysics, to questions of the basic human processes of seeing and knowing and feeling”. Many of the same questions asked in the nineteenth century are some of the same questions we ask today. What are the contributing factors that causes human behavior? How is personality developed? How do we learn language? We may not have concrete answers to these questions but thankfully we have theories that we use today from great men and women who dedicated their life’s work into seeking the answers to many of these questions. In this article we will look at the concept of personality. Personality is the study of the individual differences of thinking, feeling, and behavior and how all the parts of a person blend creating a whole (APA, 2015). We will look at the dispositional, biological and evolutionary theories.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
