Management is a collection of actions that helps an institution to work in an organized manner. It
involves many responsibilities such as planning, coordinating, problem-solving, measuring
competencies and delegating responsibilities of staff. However, “leadership is a process of
influencing people so that they will strive willingly and enthusiastically toward the achievement
of these goals” (Koontz & Weihrich, 2012). While management and leadership are two different
ideas, yet there is a bond between these two concepts which consists of leadership skills that a
health professional is required to have. But what if the person who was assigned to delegate such
responsibilities is irresponsible and possess ineffective communicative skills?
During our Leadership and management clinical rotation, one of our objectives was to
observe any clinical incident. On the first week of our clinical, we came to know that the
assigned head nurse of that service line got transferred to another service line. Therefore, a new
head nurse was being recently assigned to that area. Later on, when we inquire about that head
nurse from the assigned nursing staff; they told us that they had no idea whether the head nurse
will come today or not. By witnessing this situation, we came to know that there was a
communication gap between head nurse and other nursing staff of that area. Later on, in the
