HIGH SCHOOL GRADES AND FUTURE SALARIES CHAPTER 11 PROJECT MATH 115: STATISTICS JULIANNA YAP
INTRODUCTION I was curious to find if getting good grades actually correlated to a greater salary in the future, like everyone claims. I found a study online by the University of Miami where they found that there is a strong positive correlation between one’s high school grades and future salary. The two variables are 1) high school GPA and 2) annual salary. The population of this study was men and women who had been out of high school for roughly 10 years. The sample of this study was approximately 4700 men and 5500 women between the ages of 24 and 34. It sounds like it may have been a sort of systematic and/or stratified sample, but the sampling method is unstated. For the simplicity of this project, only the data collected from the men in the sample is used.
RAW DATA The original data, for some reason, is not available online anymore, so this data has been estimated from the graph provided by the researcher (shown below).
