I therefore, submit my candidature for consideration because I believe that I have specific qualities that make me a suitable candidate.II. Position for Consideration The position I am interested in the filing is that of the Vice President, Headquarter Operations. III. Leadership Competencies for VP, Headquarter Operations There are several leadership competencies which a suitable candidate for the position must have. First, the position requires someone who has diversity management skills. The position requires creating a work environment in which both the millennials and baby boomers can collaborate, and therefore avoid the clash of generational cultures. The millennials are young and youthful, and may not be keen on hierarchy or conformity, something that is counter to expectations of baby boomers (Cohen, 2015 p. 209). On the other hand, the vice president also needs strong negotiation and communication skills because he has to work across different departments, namely, R&D, HR, IT, Purchasing, and Finance. Collaboration across the departments is crucial for smooth running of operations, yet a clash of their subcultures may hinder such efforts. Therefore, it is critical to negotiate a middle ground where all can feel respected and valued, and thus improve willingness to cooperate (Jaques, 2017). If employees feel that the communication is demeaning, then their motivation and engagement may be adversely impacted (Cashman, 2017 p. 52).The other leadership competence that is required for this position is human resources planning. At the moment, many baby boomers are due to exit employment, especially in the HR and finance departments. It is crucial to develop a plan on how their positions will be filled to ensure that the operations of the departments continue seamlessly. It includes forecasting the number of
Memo3employees and skills likely to be lost. Besides, there is a need to identify how best to replace those employees so that the quality of operations is not adversely impacted.
