WORLD CULTURE MUSIC ESSAY 2 World Culture Music Essay Enka Music refers to the Japanese music that traces its roots back to the early periods of the Meiji Era (dating back in 1868-1912). This is the period when Japan opened its doors to the outside contact after about 250 years of self-imposed isolation and hence commencing its journey to the rapid industrial transformation. As part of the reforms in the Meiji Era political reforms, political parties were allowed but political figures were barred from making political speeches in public. To help circumvent such prohibitions, many political persons resorted to writing songs before sending singers to convey their veiled message. To get a better perspective of the study topic, the paper attempts to provide an analysis of Enka , which is a type of Japanese song. The paper achieves this by attempting to elucidate the musical traits of Enka by examining the musical taste, musical scales, vocal techniques, audience, performance, techniques rhythm among others. It is quite important to note that Enka music is one amalgamated genre. It is not informed by a single kind of rhythm or scale.
